Auguste Piccard unternahm 1931 den weltweit ersten Stratosphärenflug und tauchte in bisher unerreichte Meerestiefen. Der Ballon mit der druckfesten Kabine und auch die U-Boote waren Eigenkonstruktionen.

Jacques Piccard stiess 1960 im Marianengraben auf eine Tiefe von 10'916 Meter vor. Dieser Rekord ist nach wie vor ungebrochen.

Bertrand Piccard schaffte 1999 die erste Non-stop-Weltumrundung im Ballon. Mit seinem aktuellen Projekt "Solar Impulse" überquerte er zusammen mit André Borschberg 2013 die USA. 2015 will Piccard mit seinem Flugzeug ohne einen Tropfen Brennstoff die Erde umrunden.
